John Scott Whiteley plays Bach's Prelude in E minor from Prelude and 'wedge' fugue. Registration included newly reconstructed pedal Posaunenbass 32 with it's violone like qualities. John Scott Whiteley is an English organist. He made his debut at the Royal Festival Hall in London in 1983 at the 5.55 series of Recitals. He has performed extensively around the world and since 1985 has undertaken an annual tour of the USA. Bach was best known during his lifetime as an organist, organ consultant, and composer of organ works in both the traditional German free genres such as preludes, fantasias, and toccatas, and stricter forms such as chorale preludes and fugues. He established a reputation at a young age for his great creativity and ability to integrate foreign styles into his organ works. The Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis (Bach Works Catalogue) is the numbering system identifying compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach. The prefix BWV, followed by the work's number now is the shorthand identification for Bach's compositions. The works are grouped thematically, not chronologically. |
